The mission of Southside Animal Shelter is to rescue healthy and treatable dogs and
cats at risk of euthanasia, nurture and restore them to happy healthy lives in loving
homes, and reserve euthanasia for those animals, in a veterinarian's professional
opinion, who are in a state of terminal suffering or have been determined aggressive.
As one of the few "limited admission shelter" organizations in the city of Indianapolis, Southside Animal Shelter remains committed to the philosophy of not using euthanasia to control population. Once an animal is accepted at Southside Animal Shelter, there is no limit to the amount of time that animal can spend at the shelter. We focus our efforts on transferring animals from Indianapolis Animal Care and Control that are at risk of euthanasia.
In 2010, we transferred 1,143 animals from Indianapolis Animal Care and Control.

Gabby is a member of our lonely heart’s club which means she has been with us for
over a year now! She is a female Boston Terrier mix approximately 2 years old and
weights around 15 lbs. Gabby was rescued in July 2010 as a stray with her sister.
They were found running the streets of Indianapolis. Gabby is nervous in her cage
but is fine when she is out of her cage. She can be a little afraid around small
children. She is really a very sweet little girl. Stop in and meet her or call us
at 317-
